Creative Process

Most of Wendy’s work takes the form of custom-commissioned woven art to meet the needs of client’s homes, offices, and wardrobes. She begins the process by consulting with her clients to determine the intention for their piece, as well as the colors, textures, pattern, and shape.

Yarns

The next step is choosing the most appropriate combination of yarns from Wendy’s extensive collection and resources. Wendy is known for the subtle variations of color and texture that she combines to yield her stunning hand woven cloth.

Tassel

Clients often provide fabric samples, photos, and paint chips to give a clear picture of what the finished woven art would live with. This is especially important in the case of meeting interior design needs. Wendy often works long distance, with clients sending these samples and her returning them accompanied by tassels of yarn combinations for client approval.

Warping

Once everything has been agreed upon, Wendy then measures out the threads that will go on the loom, the “warp.” She uses a “warping board” for this process in order to maintain consistent lengths and tension.

Threading Loom

Next, Wendy chooses the most appropriate loom for the job and proceeds to thread the warp through the “reed.” Wendy literally thinks and works thread by thread. This time-consuming process is where much of the magic happens that contributes to the intricacies of the final piece.

Weaving

Wendy meditates on an image of her clients before starting their project. She performs the actual weaving process while listening to peaceful music and keeping an inner focus on her client’s intentions for their woven art. She refers to this process as, “weaving with intention.” This intention, combined with fiber, love, and joy are what makes the final woven art piece so special.

Tallit Bag

Once the weaving process is complete, Wendy hand-finishes each piece to suit the overall design. When asked how long the entire process takes, Wendy responds “30 plus years of experience” and then some.
